What IS My Style?

October 7, 2010

When I started blogging back in February I just thought it would be a creative outlet for me to express my love of fashion and shopping. After a while of finding my niche and starting to read other blogs that I follow on a daily basis, I started noticing that most people have a distinct style. I have tried putting myself in one category whether it be classic, trendy, etc. and I just cannot do it!!

I wanna be one of those people like Grace from Money Smart Fashion that always looks so hip and has that street vibe coolness to her hair, makeup and clothing. The fact of the matter is...I feel like I change it up everyday depending on my mood. If I wanna wear a classic vintage 70's dress one day and something trendy from Forever 21 the next...you better believe I am gonna do it. So, although I "follow" other bloggers and try to take notes from them and what they wear I can never be pinned to just one style even if I wanted to!

  1. i think you're CLASSIC - for the most part. you throw in up-to-date trends, but i think you're still CLASSIC. i've always thought that. wondering, "how can ashley always make black pants, pumps and a cardigan looks SO CUTE?!?!?" :)

  2. I think its great to mix-up styles. It keeps you out of fashion ruts.

  3. cute dress, that color looks great on you! i think having just one style is kinda boring. sometimes at work, people don't recognize me because I'm wearing a quirky new do or wearing a style they aren't used to seeing on me. It keeps things interesting. there's never a good time to be style pigeon-holed in my opinion. :) Here's to style experiments and beyond!!!

  4. I think about this a lot myself! I don't really think that I have a distinct "style" either, but I'm sure that a lot of other people would say that I do. I think it's hard for us to define that for ourself sometimes :) I, for one, love your style!

  5. Ha! it's ironic that you think I have a unique style because I swear just the other day I was complaining to SSBF that I didn't. It's funny how you can have a different perception of yourself then others have of you.

Without getting long winded, I think everyone should have a style. Having a "style" doesn't necessarily equate to being boring. It just means you know what you like. Trust me, my style is a long time in the making. I still don't have it all figured out yet! I just know what makes me feel my best.

As long as you are comfortable and confident in what you wear, trust me, you have style :)

btw, you kinda made my day with that comment. thanks:)

  6. I was thinking the same thing the other day. Like, it honestly bothered me for a day and a half. And then I started thinking about my closet and my outfits and was like, "Um, hello, you DO have a style: Classic with a twist." And then I agonized over what that twist was and settled on leaving that twist up to my mood on any given day. It's focused, but not too narrow, like a good research question. ;)

I feel like "Classic with a twist" describes what I see you wear on the blog. That twist just varies and that's fine.

  7. I hear you! I don't have a style either. Wish I did. I just feel more comfortable in tailored, well constructed clothes! That blue dress definitely suits you. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment :)

  8. I feel like you do have a distinct style and am starting to look your blog and say "That's so Ashley" as in you, not me, of course. :-) Not sure what I would call it but it is distinct and more importantly you. Maybe Classy&Sassy-Modern Working-Woman?

  9. I'm much the same when it comes to defining my own personal style. But then, maybe mood-dressing is a style? haha. Anyway, that blue dress looks gorgeous on you!
