Belted Or Not??

April 21, 2011

I love all the slouchy, laid back styles I have been seeing lately like here and here. My problem is I always feel the strongest urge to wear a belt to feel more put together and give my waist a more defined shape.

I couldn't resist adding a belt to the flowy top I wore today but I posted both pictures below. You be the judge!

  1. I say "belt"! I think waist definition here is a bonus, simply because it's not just the body of the blouse that's "blousy", it's the sleeves, too. I'm a big fan of "big sleeves", but when paired with a generous silhouette through the body of the blouse, your shape disappears, and the fabric overwhelms your frame. The belt is a good idea. B-T-W - I'm simply IN LOVE with those heels!

  2. First off, those shoes are fabulous. Secondly, I agree with the other commenter--the blouse is overwhelming your frame, belt! :) I know you'd lose the interesting hem on the bottom, but have you tried tucking it in? I think that would look amazing.

  3. I'm with you, I want to belt everything! S+C always say you've got to accentuate your tiny waist!

  4. belted for sure! I tend to belt even higher to get the smallest part of my waist.

  5. Love that skirt. Saw it on the cover of the Talbots catalog and put it on my wish list. Must find it deeply discounted, tho:)

I wonder what your top would look like belted higher. I like it better belted but then it looks too short at the bottom.

  7. ZOMG Those shoes! they are amazeballs. I had been thinking about getting those "heel condoms" with the feather that are gorgeous but these are so different! adore.
Now for the question. I like it better belted for sure. I don't like droopy clothes though so I may be bias :)

  9. i like the belt on it w/ the skirt. but i like it w/o the belt and maybe some skinny jeans or other skinny pants. i think the slouchy on top is cute and best w/ something long and skinny on the bottom. what do i know, though?? :)

  11. I'm a big fan of belting. I love loose layers on others, but always feel a bit undone myself. Super cute heels too, my dear!

  12. I usually belt flowy stuff too but I really think this asymmetrical top can be free flowing! It's a great outfit either way :)

  13. Both belted and flowing look good to me. Like a couple others said, I think it might look even better to have the belt higher. And those shoes -- AWESOME!!! :)

  14. I have been into belting a lot lately, but I actually like this more without the belt. I like the flowyness of the blouse. I think with the belt works, too, but without works better for me. The heels are great!

  15. I have to say, I'm usually ALL for a belt...but I actually think that in this case NO BELT has a more relaxed vibe and it's more flattering. Cute outfit!

  17. I actually really like it without the belt. It looks relaxed like you're not trying too hard, but still pulled together. Pretty shirt!
